Hat Pins & Money Saving Idea!

Oh I do believe I'm going to have a problem, I believe a new addiction is going to take hold…hat pins! I’ve been saying for a while now that I was going to attempt to make some, I should have ran for the hills, besides the fact that it’s a quick and easy creation this these are so cute you can’t help but smile!

No wonder these are all the rage, they are just precious!

So here’s my DIY for these, ready? You need pins, now I have no idea if I got the ‘right’ kind but I bought what I could find. The ones I’m using are 3” head pins. They bend way to easy and they don’t have a point on them, which could actually be better as I don’t have to worry about anyone being impaled if I include one on a card! You need beads, small holed ones, but not so small it won’t fit on the pin. I’m using beads that I’ve had for years so I’m sort of working with what I got. Now some people suggested using a crimper bead to hold everything in place and I may try that next, though I find those to be a pain to work with. I’m going by what someone else said and using Glossy Accents in between the beads. I slide the bead down, put a little Glossy Accents on the pin, spin the bead around in the Glossy Accents and then push it up. Repeat for all beads. Easy! I played with the beads on the pins trying different ones, made up a bunch and then used the gloss accents, now they are drying. I smile every time I look at them!

A while back I saw that someone had come out with a nonslip nonstick craft sheet . Oh what a great idea I thought, I love my craft sheet but hadn’t been using it. Well the price tag on that item was pretty steep, (it’s around 5 Copic Sketch markers) or $30 plus shipping. Well I said to myself, hmm, must be a DIY for that.. So this morning I broke out a bottle of Wacky Tac and spread it all over the back of the mat, then let it dry (just like the directions say) and Viola’ I now have a nonslip craft sheet! I can easily move it, I can wash it, no tape stuck to my desk and if it starts to lose its stick, Wacky Tac to the recuse!

I’m off now to grab some lunch and I’m feeling feisty today (even though I’ve got the sniffles and a scratchy throat!) so I’m thinking that cigar box is about to get a make over!!!!

Workdesk Wednesday

So I ‘discovered’ a blog last week called Stamping Ground and besides being just a delightful read she does a thing called, WOYWW which is What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday.
Now, I don’t know about you, but often when we are out driving or walking I wonder..What’s it look like inside?, What sort of garden do they have out back?, What does their studio or workshop look like? So now I get to be a voyeur and see other people’s workdesks! Since these folks are showing me theirs, it’s only fair I show mine.

Anyone that knows me even just a little, knows that I like being organized so my current project involve putting labels on my Copic Ciao markers. When I decided to stick my proverbial toe in the water with Copics I didn’t want to invest a lot of money into markers that I may well hate (read have utterly no success with) so I went with Ciao. Of course like a really good potato (or in my case organic corn) chip, once you start you can’t stop. (I’m convinced there is something in the ink that makes you buy more because every time I use them I end up placing an order for a few more colors!) I digress..

Over on Splitcoast Stampers in the Copic Storage discussion thread a gal posted a pdf that has the Ciao numbers in 1/4” circles that you can punch out and adhere with a little glue dot to the cap. No more digging through the markers to find the color I need.

Here’s what they look like attached. Not all the colors were on the sheet as it hasn’t been updated since they converted some colors to Ciao’s but I think I can figure out how to make 1/4” circles with those numbers on it.

Another project on my desk is a box containing beads (no I’m not getting into jewelry making!) I love these little hat pins that are showing up on peoples cards and I’ve had these beads for years got them back in the day when I was making domino pins to swap at conventions..yup! So all I had to do was get some pins and those rubber earring backer thingy's. I’ll get around to them, after I finish the markers, the OSW masculine birthday cards and those blasted cigar boxes that are still waiting to be altered… I will, I will!
So now I’m off to peep into other’s rooms, oh I can’t wait!

Copic Sketch Chart

I don’t know about you, but I like having my color chart to look at. I like it for getting an idea of how the color looks on paper and I like being able to see what colors I have. (Makes it easier to shop for more lol!)
Today I was looking and realized that some of the colors that were on my current chart only came in originals and I don’t really like those all that much. I also didn’t have any of the new colors from the last 2 introductions. I went looking but couldn’t find a chart that listed just the sketch markers, had numbers large enough and dark enough to actually see and was on one page. So I made my own and I’m sharing it with you. I figure there might be one or two people out there that need it.
Here’s a snippet of what it looks like, it’s a Word Document. I used my laser printer and printed it out on paper that I typically use when coloring with my Copics. It’s just an 8 1/2 x 11 piece, nothing fancy. (Oh and the blank boxes are so you can add new colors when they are added.)

Oh Scrap...Part 2!!!!

Progress I love it!!!! I love knowing that I’ve moved forward and there is no better way to know it that then when you can see it!
Remember those overflowing piles of paper scraps and card bases?? Well look what they’ve become.

All of the are held together with repositionable adhesive so that I can add ribbon, stamped image, verse or bling with ease. I’ve got a mountain of cards now that can be put to great use instead of just being scraps!
Those scrap boxes..

My scrap basket now has every scrap I have in it and can sit nicely on my desk.

I’m so happy I feel less cluttered and a lot less guilty of paper hoarding lol! I can now use up these scraps for any die cuts or things I want to cut with my Pazzles! I’ve got plenty of card starts that will cover just about any event!

Oh scrap!!!

There is this thing that happens with anyone that is creative it’s called acquisition. It doesn’t matter what your medium of choice is, you will acquire all manner of ‘supplies’. There will always be a new, better, prettier something that you ‘need’. If you are creative and you’ve avoided getting sucked into this, may the heavens bless you (and can you PLEASE teach me your secret!).

In that my passion is for making things with paper, I have a substantial collection of paper. That doesn’t stop me from browsing the paper isles endless though or from perusing the suppliers online. I’ve been doing extremely well in the last few months, I’ve managed to control my need for acquisition and have passed up sales and specials galore. I’m patting myself on the back for that.

On Sunday, I started cleaning up my paper stash as I had a lot of packs of TAC paper that had never been opened. (Acquisition at work!) I found lots of pieces that were not whole sheets stored in between the unopened packs. When I was done sorting this is what I was left with…

It’s a 12 by 12 storage container that I honestly don’t know if I can close! (Insert infomercial music here..) But wait there’s more!!!

While sorting through all this I also found another container (hanging head ruefully) that was full of…yep, more scraps and partly started cards. I cleaned out the paper and was left with this…

What’s a girl to do? Well this girl has set a new challenge out for herself. I’m challenging myself to say NO to new and to use up what you see in these pictures. That means, cards, die cuts and layers will all come from what you see.

Wish me luck, I’m going to need it!

It’s a love bug!!!

So I sent out Valentine’s this year, it was fun actually. One of my favorite memories as a kid was getting that construction paper out, the Elmer's glue, scissors, markers and whatever else I could find to make cards with. Do you remember how to cut a heart out of a piece of paper???

In addition to the one sheet wonder Valentine’s that I made, I also played around with some other stuff. This one I gave to my friend Kathy.

The ribbon was from a box of chocolate covered strawberries that we had at her house one Friday night, the conversation hearts were embossed with a Cuttlebug folder and the circles were cut with my Spellbinders. Now that darling little LOVE BUG (whom both Kathy and my husband both called a lady bug) is a digital stamp from Little Scraps of Heaven. It was a freebie a long time ago that I thought was adorable. I colored it with my Copic markers and let me tell you I couldn’t have picked harder colors to work with. Reds run and well, you can’t use a solid black to color with because black isn’t really ‘black’. I’m still learning as I go!

Pazzles..

I’ve had my Pazzles Inspiration for quite sometime, maybe 5 years or so. I was really into learning the software at one point and got away from it, well now I’m back into it. I’ve been working through some marathon classes taught by by Klo over at Klo’s Craftroom. I really can’t thank her enough for taking her time and sharing these classes for free!

The finished cards aren’t really the total reflection of what we are learning. Yes I learned how to create shapes, titles and outlines. I also learned about using the guidelines, cleaning paths and a whole bunch more!

This class was about taking an intricate font and making easier for the Pazzles to cut and let me tell you, I didn’t realize all the stuff that was going on with these fonts! There are some crazy construction points and cutting directions. That neat little border was made with the scissors feature, I see a ton of use for that in my future.

I’ve got the files ready for the next project, it’s using chipboard. I got stumped on that on Thursday and I had some other projects that I had to take care of, that’s another post though!

It’s a Crock…of flowers that is!

Ok so I got to spend part of today doing nothing but what I wanted. I spent some time surfing around on the net, looking at sketches, reading blogs and window shopping. (Anyone know anything about the Sew Easy? I’ve heard mixed reviews but am intrigued.) I was looking at those images I’ve been playing with and decided to make another card, I don’t know what the deal is with circles today lol..

So the inspiration for this came from Stamping Queens sketch challenge. I really loved how it incorporated sewing (which takes us back to that Sew Easy!) I have one of those Sew Crafty Mini machines which I used to sew the stitches on this but for anyone that has one you know it has some limits. I love adding stiches to my cards it really is a neat touch but I’ve never had much luck with the machine. I’ve used my big White machine before but what a pain to get it out and use. So seriously if anyone knows anything about the Sew Easy leave me a comment!

I colored the image with my Copics not much shading so the colors are pretty straight forward. The paper is just some random scraps that I have but I thought the blues went really well together.

Tomorrow is another day and my friend Kat is coming over to get creative with me, it’s going to be a fun filled stamping Sunday!!

Elephants on Parade…

I spent just about every free second I had this week in my studio! I sorted scraps and found some half finished elephants from a CTMH set called Wild Thing. Now I started these elephants with my first few Copic markers and it didn’t occur to me (duh!) at the time to write down what colors I used. So I was flying blind on finishing these guys.

I used CPS sketch #241 for the layout. I had already cut all three elephants out in circles and made the dark blue scallop to layer.

This one is a sketch from Doodle Bug designs, I loved this and it fit with my circles even if it didn’t go with their theme!

Lastly and surprisingly this one went perfect with the CPS Sketch 252 and I think it’s my favorite. All the pattern papers were from TAC’s Just Like Dad paper, the cardstocks were old DCWV.

All three of them I used C-2, C-5 and C-7 to darken or attempt to add shading too. If they ever have a Copic certification class local to me I’m so there. I love using them, I just have SO much to learn.

Valentine Wonder!

Hello? Is there anybody out there??? Oh! There you are, so nice to see you again!!! I’ve been creating away the last few days. It’s hard to finish projects when you only have here and there time. I however have dedicated myself to be far more creative and productive this year. Why, after this post I’ll be getting right back to it!

So what have I been working on you ask? Oh yes that was why I came looking for you! It’s a Valentine Wonder! A One Sheet Wonder to be specific! These things have been around in one form or fashion for years now. These were actually made for my stamping date with my gal pal Kathy. It’s so much easier to understand a concept like an OSW when you have samples!

This particular one made 10 cards from one piece of 8 1/2 x 11” patterned paper. If you aren’t familiar with a OSW it basically allows you to create an almost waist free collection of pieces for card fronts. The bases, embellishments and other layers come from additional supplies.

Love the flowers lol, so puffy and pretty! Told ya, more flowers in my projects this year .

Simple layers and embellishments can make for some cute cards!

A little bling here, a little ribbon there and viola’ you’ve got 10 cards in one piece of paper. Now if you use paper that is double sided you can have cards that look totally different but still complementary! You could also use a OSW to make a collection of clean and simple note cards, birthday or thank you cards to give as a set!

Well the solar flares have my creative sparks flying today, so I’m off like a flash to get some more ink on my fingers!

Spring Flowering Tree

While the ground here in Maryland is finally covered in white, my creative mojo is all abloom! Last March I got my issue of CardMaker magazine and fell in love with the card on the front cover. You can see it here: CardMaker March 2011 I’d never done anything with flower soft products but I so loved that card. So I ordered those and the glue and then set about finding a tree that I liked. The search proved fruitless until I was at Hobby Lobby the other day with my gal pal Kathy.

The stamp is made by Penny Black and I see SO many potential cards being made with it. Of course the first one just had to be the one using the flower soft stuff!

Since this is my first time working with the flower soft I had no idea how much glue to fluff ratio. While assembling the card the fluff was falling like real cherry blossoms lol, so it’s not as ‘thick’ as I’d like it to be. It is however, I think pretty! The papers and ribbon are from TAC’s More Mimi collection, I love the colors so much. The stamp is from a TAC set Basic Birds I think was the name.

I’m off now to do a bit more creating, I love weekends where I can spend most of my time freely in my studio!

Changes for 2012!

It’s funny but until recently I never realized how much I was swayed by the trend tide. It’s hard not to get caught up in some things like the desire for beautiful papers, the need for the latest tool or the out right addiction to Copic markers! I started thing though about stamping and how I’ve not really blended my love of it with my other loves in my life. I don’t make resolutions so this isn’t really one, it’s more of a creative goal for me. I plan to stamp and create using the things that I am truly passionate about. Now what might those be you ask? Well, flowers, animals, trees, insects, hmm maybe I should just say Nature and all her splendid offerings! So to help me embrace my new goal, I’ve started by brightening up the old blog here. It’s quite fitting for me really; sunny, happy and oh so flowery!

Now I’ve also started by my first card of 2012!

Isn’t he awesome! My darling husband gave him to me for Christmas. I love all animals, but for some reason I’ve developed a really love affair with moose. This guy is from www.dragonflylaser.com I just stumbled upon him one day while checking out Moose stamps on Amazon and added him to my wish list. I used Copic E41, E43 for his antlers, E41, E43, E47 for his fur, E31 is the color inside his ear and I used C5 and C7 on his hooves. The sentiment is from an old TAC set and the card stock is DCVW and Bazzill for the base. Those balloons are actually brads, but I have no idea where they came from!

Oh, my other goal for this year, to post more often! So be on the look out for another card soon. I’ve just gotten this adorable tree stamp that I can’t wait to use and….I’ve finally started cutting out flowers with my Pazzles Inspiration!!!! This is going to be a great year!!!

I did it! I did it! I FINALLY did it! I know big deal another card maker selling their cards lol, but I’m excited about it. So I know have my very own Etsy Store and you can find it here Creative Inkspirations I signed up years ago and just never quite got there. This I decided would be the year I finally did. I’ve started with some baby cards, Color Me Card kits and some birthday cards. Very simple, nothing over the top. I’ve got more to add though. Also…I’m trying to convince my uber talented husband to let me list some of his amazing handmade wood creations.

Stamping time…

So my friend Kathy decided she wanted to learn to stamp and I was more than happy to share my time and passion for this hobby with her! She’s been coming over on Sundays and we’ve been making Christmas cards. I’m teaching her the basics, easy sketches, easy card folds. I can’t wait to get her fingers super inky with some techniques in the future!!!

For now though we’ve been doing some clean and simple cards and I wanted to share a few that I made during our recent creative afternoon. The goal was to show her how the same sketch could be used in different ways.

I’m also sharing this wonderful Christmas cards with Christmas Cards All Year Round for their December challenge. The challenge is Anything Goes as long as their made this month and they are!

A simple layout using patterned paper and ribbon. The paper is from a paper stack they were scraps I had, I love the country feel! The sentiment is from CTMH and the reindeer I love but don’t know where I got the stamp from.

Same sketch but the patterned paper becomes an embossed piece and the ribbon strip becomes a shiny piece of paper. Cuttlebug folder and the tree is an old TAC stamp.

We’re having fun! I’m looking forward to our next Sunday together!!

Catching Up!

So I was rolling right along with posting on the regular huh? Well I’m trying to play catch up with everything after life drowned me with a tidal wave. I’m just now starting to surface..

So this was Day 7 of the Christmas Card Boot Camp, more photo cards. I used a snowy picture of my house from last year for this one and turned the picture black and white. I didn’t complete Days 8 and 9 or the bonus day but I plan too!

Circles and more circles!

Day 6 of Christmas Card Boot Camp brought 3 wonderful sketches to inspire! I turned on some Christmas movies and got busy with two of them!

This card was so easy to do and it’s actually a pretty cute card. The paper is some very old glitter infused paper from Marco’s and a light brown Kraft paper. The stamps are all old TAC sets and no I didn’t stitch, I used my white gel pen! Looks just like it would if I did stitch it though lol! The inks are Distress, Fired Brick, Pine Needles and Brushed Corduroy. I like fun and simple!

This one proved to be a little more challenging….

And it’s more of a tag then a card. I used my Spellbinders largest circle to cut it out. I could have used my Pazzles but I was just not feeling that motivated. So I used Distress Pine needles with the blending tool on the background. Then I inked up an old MSE word stamp with Pine needles again and stamped it. I really liked how that looked and didn’t want to cover too much up, so I used another Spellbinders to cut a circle to put over that. The snowflake circle is from my first attempt at the window card from last week. The flower was made with my Spellbinder die and I just cut and curled the petals. I used pearls for the center and some gold cord to go behind it. The Celebrate is from…you guessed it..an old TAC set.

Today was fun, low key, not to stressful. That’s my kind of card making!!!

Snowflakes ….

Day 5 of the Christmas card boot camp was Friday, but my watercolor paper didn’t arrive until Saturday, so today was my day 5 and 6!

This ‘technique’ is cool and I love the way it turned out. I used Distress inks in Pine Needles and Broken China. The snowflake is chipboard from CTMH, I covered it with Crystal stickles, the sentiment is from an old TAC set. The button is a real button from my stash and I tied it with Scrapper’s floss. I used Shimmer Spritz in frost.

Now they don’t show up well in the picture but I used some glittery letters

that I used Broken China with the blending tool to spell out peace. I really love the colors and textures on this card and I’m looking forward to trying it again!!!

Hooky!

Ok so I totally cut class today, Holiday Boot Camp that is! Today’s project was Christmas letters and well I’ve never understood those. I mean if I’m taking the time to send a Christmas card to someone, it’s someone that is a part of my life. Someone that is a part of my life doesn’t need a letter telling them, what’s going on in my life.

So instead I just played around with some different stuff, starting with these cards.

They were inspired by Blooming Paper. Her cards are so pretty and well I couldn’t help but case them! So thank you to Jennie for the inspiration!!

Now I cut those stars out with my Pazzles, the more I use it the more I love it! I also decided to play with this guy…

He will eventually become a birthday card but he was just so cool that I had to go ahead and cut him out. If you know me, you know I love moose!!!

So we will see what happens tomorrow with boot camp, looking forward to something awesome!

Christmas Boot Camp…Ugh..Day 3!

Today was a test of fortitude, of might over matter, of pushing through even though I wanted to toss in the towel… It was grueling, mind numbing, frustrating….

This card is a testament to my being able to scrounge together supplies to make things happen! Faux letterpress is what this technique is called and it is simple and creates a neat effect. I had to go the ‘other way’ with this as I don’t own the Hero Arts set. I also didn’t have the circle punch, so I used my Spellbinders die which actually worked pretty well as I was able to run the already attached embossed layer to the card so the circles would line up nicely. My snowflake is from a chipboard collection that CTMH had (or has) and I colored it with my Copic Spica pens. My biggest hurdle, the simplest thing ever, the sentiment. I don’t have a white ink pad that is ‘white’ enough to show up on that red paper and even more shocking (to me at least) is that I don’t have any white detail embossing powder which meant no embossing of my sentiment. I tried every white ink I have, to no avail I ended up stamping my sentiment and using my white gel pen to go over the letters to enhance them. The inside is an old MSE background stamp and I used Distress Ink Tattered Rose for that faded look.

There were two cards today the other used watercolor paper and that I don’t have and don’t know of a quality substitute for so I’ll wait on that one lol.. It’s on order though as is some white ink and white detail ep!

Christmas Boot Camp…Day 2!

I’ve been making cards a while now, about 14 years and I’ve collected a lot of supplies in that time. So imagine my surprise when I realized that I didn’t have something so simple it’s funny. A circle punch! So I had to wing todays photo cards, which by the way are the first I’ve ever made!

First up my precious pups, Dakota and Zoe! I try to get a pawsitively adorable picture of them by the tree every year. Some years they are great about it, others well I get the “Oh joy..” look from them. They look so thrilled don’t they lol! I love them so much and they make my holidays happy!

This is the number one mischief maker Ally, she is always in the middle of everything and Christmas morning is no exception. She loves the paper, crawls under it, rolls all over it and she’ll even dig at the packages, she a cat after my own heart! Her sister Hayleigh is only interested when the paper contains catnip!

Since no circle punch did I have, I used an old fiskars (almost-broke-my wrist-on-it) corner punch called Victorian. I slid the pictures into the slot and used repositionable adhesive to hold the ‘frame’ to the card front, that or just the photo can be saved (one hopes people save your handmade cards too though!). No bakers twine for this girl either so on the pups picture I braided some scrappers floss together. The Happy Holidays bauble is so old I don’t know where it’s from. The sentiment on Ally Cat’s card is from The Cat’s Pajamas and the holly corners are Jolee’s that I got on clearance at Michaels.

Got to admit these photo cards are super cute!

Meowy Christmas and a Howling New Year

Christmas Boot Camp!

So I decided to do something different and signed up for a online Christmas Card Boot Camp. Today was day one and so I jumped right in (of course lol).

Some great ideas were shared and I took them and went running!

This was my initial take on combining the two cards that were showcased today. I loved the idea from the first card of using two shades of the same paper and I’m always a fan of dots. I however fell in love with the star from the second card and wanted to use it in my design. The funny thing is, I think this card is a little plain but my darling husband said the simplicity of it was why he loved it. To me it needs…something…

Like I said I love those stars! So here are two more adorning this card. I used the snowflakes CB embossing folder and a piece of wide ribbon. The blues really pop together IRL!

So much inspiration, so many ideas and it’s only day one! I might end up with enough Christmas cards for next year too!!!!

Christmas Greetings

Tri Fold Christmas…

So once I showed my mom this card, she wanted to make one (or a dozen) more. So I showed her how and we spend some time playing with different papers and embellishments to create some cards.

This one’s got a little of everything on the paper is so homey and old fashioned to me. I love how traditional it looks, well…color wise at least.

Snow, I love snow! I’m a Let it Snow, Snow, Snow kinda gal so I had fun with this winter card. It’s all about the flakes and it just cools me to the core looking at it!

All the papers and embellishments are just from the local craft stores. You know those giant paper stacks that have hundreds of pieces that you can’t ever figure out what to do with, but that you had to have lol. The embellishments are just buttons and stickers and well anything sparkly that I’ve had stashed. These cards are great for finally using stuff up!

I have so many ideas for this guy, so after coloring him, instead of stamping out a verse I’ve been playing on PSE with different ones.

Christmas Origami…

My mom came over the other day and we played with some origami Christmas trees. Stamping Videos is where we got the directions from and while at first it seemed hard, once we got the hang of the folds, it was pretty easy!

This was the first one and I really, really like it, it’s 4 pieces and the same fold repeated. I’m not sure how you go about mailing one of these and prevent it from getting flattened though.

This is the second one, the folding is completed but the card needs more work. I plan to add some ‘bling’ to it, make it a little sparkly. Snowflakes maybe, something on the paper itself perhaps.

So I purchased some digital stamps from Enchanted Inspirations and finally got a chance to sit down and play with them. I love Michelle’s designs they are whimsical, fun and have just a touch of magic!

This is Celeste and I think she’s lovely! I think my coloring of her wasn’t too bad either!
